Film Society, "Sullivan's Travels" 8 pm, Town Hall; dinner at 7, film at 8. - Friday, April 23, 2010

Another Classic Film in April on April 23, the GP Film Society presents Sullivan’s Travels. Made at the end of the Depression, this Preston Sturges romantic comedy with a social conscience will remind you why the 1930’s and 40’s are considered the Golden Age of Hollywood. Joel McCrea stars as a pampered, Hollywood director of escapist films, who wants to make a “serious” film called O Brother, Where Art Thou? (Fun fact: The Coen brothers borrowed this title for a comedy/adventure movie they made in 2000.) He goes on the road as a hobo to find out what life is like for the downtrodden. It isn’t easy, but he eventually gets his wish. Along the way he meets Veronica Lake, an out of work actress, who helps him realize what is really important in his life and work.

A dinner inspired by the film will be served at 7 pm (under $10/per person). Wine, beer, soda, and bottled water are priced from $1 to $5. Nuts and popcorn available for $1 are free to members with a coupon. The film will be shown at the Town Hall at 8pm. Admission is free to members and is $5 per
person or $10 per family at the door.
