Parks and Open Space Committee

Introduction

Founded in 1974 for the purpose of maintaining park acreage according to the original town plan, the citizens Committee on Parks later renamed the Parks and Open Space Committee, acronym POSCO -- conducts research and advises the Town Council on a wide range of parks-related issues including safety, playgrounds, playground equipment, recreational and educational possibilities, potential improvements, and results of research. It meets at least quarterly. Meetings are held in a park or in the town office, and last from 60 to 90 minutes. Mission Statement

The Parks and Open Space committee (POSCO) of the Town of Garrett Park, Maryland, adopts and states the following as its mission statement:

To review the condition and appropriateness of Town parks and open space concordant with Town history, characteristics, and needs; and to advise the Mayor and Town Council about related items including, but not limited to: parks, open spaces, playgrounds, park and playground equipment, potential improvements, and results of research.

Method

POSCO fulfills its mission utilizing the following activites:

Maintain roster of members

Transact on site and table meetings

Record minutes

Participate in budget process

Conduct relevant research

Communicate with residents, Mayor, Town Administrator, Town Council, &

Maryland-National Capital Park & Planning Commission (M-NCPPC)
