Council Responsibilities

1.       Historic Preservation Committee (HPC), Garrett Park Conservation Trust (GPCT), and Set-Back Advisory Committee (SAC)

Councilmember Beth Irons

  • Serve as a liaison with the HPC and GPCT; work with county preservation groups, the County Historic Preservation Commission and the County Planning Board.
  • Serve as liaison to SAC in reviewing building and demolition permit applications and variance requests, assist residents in understanding related ordinances, and sign granted permits.    
  • Serve as Liaison to the Advisory Committee on Zoning in making recommendations to the Council regarding zoning issues arising from the passage of HB 1232.
  • Search for and develop grants to improve historic preservation and zoning.

2.       Town Right-Of-Ways, and Arboretum

Councilmember Solange Hansen

  • Serve as a liaison to the Town Arborist, and the Arboretum Committee, work with the Town staff on the planting, pruning, preservation and removal of Town trees, help to co-ordinate work with the Right-Of-Ways and help to prepare a budget proposal for the Arboretum.  
  • Serve as liaison to the Town Right-Of-Ways Committee, develop a R.O.W. policy for the Town, supervision issuing of drive-way permits, help to co-ordinate the committee’s work with the Arboretum Committee, and help to prepare budget proposals for any improvements for the Town’s R.O.W.  
  • Search for and develop grants to maintain and improve the Town’s right-of-ways and arboretum.

3.       Parks and Open Spaces, and Pool Association

Councilmember Charles Berry

  • Serve as liaison to the Parks and Open Spaces Committee and the Pool Association, search for and develop grants to improve parks and open spaces, help to co-ordinate the work of the committee and pool board and help to prepare budget proposals for projects in the Town’s parks and open spaces.   
  • Search for and develop grants to improve the Town’s parks and to acquire more open space within the Town.

4.       Town Streets and Drains, Strathmore Avenue, and Street Lights

Councilmember Hans Wegner

  • Co-ordinate with Town staff to manage the operation and repair of Town infrastructure.
  • Help prepare annual operating and maintenance budget.
  • Search for and develop grants to improve the Towns streets, storm drains, and street lighting

5.       Town Hall and Penn Place

Councilmember Jack Mandel

  • Co-ordinate with Town staff the operation and management of Town Hall
  • Serve as liaison with Council and Penn Place tenants
  • Work with Town staff on tenant relations, operations and management for Penn Place
  • Help to prepare budget proposals for the building operations or needed improvements on the building
  • Search for and develop grants to improve Town buildings and help prepare budget proposals for projects related to the improvements of the Town’s buildings  

6.       Capital Improvement Program

Committee of the Whole

  • Co-ordination of the review of the Town's infrastructure
  • Liaison with the Town’s consulting engineers
  • Search for and develop grants to support the Town’s capital program.
