New Resident Information

Welcome to Garrett Park!

Please come to the Garrett Park Town Office located at Penn Place, 4600 Waverly Avenue, 3rd Floor, to say hello and to introduce yourself to Ted Pratt, our Town Administrator, and to Elizabeth Henley, our Assistant Town Administrator. They are here to help you with questions and concerns about our Town. Be sure to give them your contact information: post office box number, street address, email, fax and phone numbers so they know how to reach you. The Town Office is open M--F, 8 am– 4 pm Telephone: 301-933-7488

Some information to know upon your arrival:

Trash collection takes place Mondays and Thursdays: the Town contracts out our refuse and recycling collection. Items should be ready for pickup before 7:30 am. Please place trash in plastic bags inside covered, securely "locked" receptacles, as we have a clever and sociable raccoon population here who enjoy calling in their family and friends to party with your garbage, their smorgasbord! Receptacles may be placed at the side or rear of your house; it is not necessary to put them at the curb.

Recycling collection on Mondays: please recycle all that you can recycle! Place your bin at the curb before 7:00 am. For more specific information on what you may and may not recycle, visit http://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/recycling or call: 240-777-6400. However, please remember:

  • No plastic wrap or bags (these can be recycled at nearby grocery stores)
  • Rinse your recyclables before putting them in the bin
  • Don't crush your bottles and cans
  • Labels do not need to be removed from your containers

Mixed paper recycling (Mondays): acceptable materials may be placed at the curb in paper bags or small cardboard boxes. Flatten all empty boxes and put them into bundles not larger than three feet wide by three feet long and six inches thick. Tie newspapers with twine or place in a box or paper bags. Shredded paper is okay secured in a paper bag or box. The following items are acceptable: newspapers and inserts; magazines, catalogs, telephone books, unwanted mail; cereal and other boxes, corrugated cardboard, paperback books; computer and office paper; all other clean, dry paper. Please remember:

  • No packing material such as Styrofoam or plastic
  • No waxed paper, carbon paper, hard backed books
  • No paper or cardboard contaminated with paint, chemicals, kitty liter, food or grease
  • No foil gift wrap, paper towels, napkins or tissues

Yard Waste (Mondays) : Yard waste is picked up at the curb every Monday morning from April through November and on the first Monday of the month December through March. It must be at the curb before 7:00 a.m. Place leaves, grass, small brush, and clippings in large paper bags available at most grocery and hardware stores, home improvement and garden centers. Total bag weight cannot exceed 45 pounds. Branches and large brush may be tied in bundles with twine. Bundles should not exceed 30 inches in diameter or four feet in length. Individual branches must not exceed four feet in length or four inches in diameter. Please remember:

  • No rocks, dirt or sod
  • No root balls or tree stumps
  • No lumber or firewood
